Classes for Beginners

Please bring yourself and your curiosity about the practice of yoga. In our Basic classes, you will experience basic level poses (asana) to get you moving, breath awareness exercises (pranayama) to help you deepen your lung capacity and meditation to help you intentionally let go of stresses from your daily activities. You will learn how to use props to aid you in the practice and learn many ways to modify the poses. These classes are appropriate for anyone new to yoga or for anyone deepening their exploration of the basic poses.

Beginners: FAQ

Which class is best for me?

If none of the above times work for you, come to ANY BASIC, GENTLE, or RESTORATIVE CLASS on the schedule and tell the teacher you are new to yoga.

Also, keep an eye out for our beginner series workshops, offered throughout the year at both studios. These workshops are designed for absolute beginners to yoga and will give you a solid foundation for your practice.

What should I wear?

Anything you are comfortable moving around in (sweat pants and t-shirts are fine, but be sure the clothes are not too baggy). You will be removing your shoes, so no special footwear is needed.

Do I need to bring a yoga mat?

No, we provide yoga mats and all props, free of charge! Do bring a water bottle with you that you can refill at either studio.

What if I have an injury but I am not totally incapacitated and want to try yoga anyway?

Always communicate to your teacher any injuries so s/he can help you with modifications for a safe practice. And we highly recommend that you attend any of the beginner, gentle and restorative classes.
