Focus of the Month for July
Freedom and Retreat / Heron and Tortoise poses
“Dedicate your actions at this time to discovering inner freedom.” Lama Yeshe
This month we will focus, in part, on freedom. In some basic way we may know yoga leads to freedom, but the question remains: freedom from what? With a little investigation in the first chapter of the yoga sutras you will find some sign posts.
Take a day this month when you know you have no responsibilities and use it as a personal retreat day. Unplug the phone, computer and TV, put down the books and the newspaper and get quiet. Do a little asana, meditate, see what happens. Free yourself from doing all the things you think you need to do. Essentially, do nothing and go nowhere. Be more here.
As you retreat to your weekly yoga classes we will practice working towards Krounchasana (heron), a pose representing the easy freedom of a low flying bird, and Kurmasana (tortoise), a slow and methodical route to exploring worlds within.
