Focus of the Month for January
Take a Fresh Start & Find Your Center:
Two things come to mind at the start of the year: taking a fresh start and finding your center. We all have our habits even in our yoga practice. How do we take a new look at this practice that we perform with such dedication, discipline and devotion so it does not become stale and regimented? This practice has the potential to be a continuous unfolding creative process of self-discovery. How do we look with a different perspective at the poses we do often? It could be as simple as reading a book on asana, taking class from a different teacher, moving your mat to a different spot, or simply adjusting yourself in the pose. You decide what is best for you.
As the year ends just after the holidays it is not uncommon to feel a bit off balance. For some reason there is encouraged overindulgence during the season: foods, sweets, lots of social gatherings, travel… There is a desire to get back to balance, to find one's center again -- that elusive place in the body, mind, heart. Where is it exactly? Physically, it changes depending on our relationship to gravity if you're a seated in paschimottanasana (seated forward bend) it differs from when you are standing in vrksasana (tree).
Please join us in this journey towards a new understanding of the yoga practice.
