Joan Arnold brings to her teaching a long background in dance, yoga and bodywork. Introduced to Hatha Yoga as a teenager, she was certified as an Anusara yoga teacher by Molly Fox and Jackie Prete in 2002. Her ongoing study has included Irene Dowd, Jodie Rufty, Carla Stangenberg, Kyle Shepard, Jonathan Gordon and Jennifer Brilliant. Owner of the Ancram Opera House, she has taught weekend yoga classes and produced music, dance and theater programs for the Hudson Valley community.
A Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique for 26 years, Joan is certified to teach Jessica Wolf’s Art of Breathing. In her private practice, she helps people with a variety of challenges relieve chronic pain, solve body problems and return to the activities they love. She applies Alexander’s elegant grammar of the body in her yoga classes, emphasizing flow, buoyancy and clarity, guiding students to release tension and expand their practice with a focused, gentle touch.
Joan has presented her integrative approach to yoga students and teachers at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, and will return there in July, 2014. She has written for national magazines on dance, bodywork, alternative medicine and yoga. At Jaya, she has offered Yoga and Alexander Technique workshops, and is thrilled to teach in such a vibrant yoga community. Her joy is sharing with her students the many ways that a fuller spectrum of movement can deepen our connections and understanding of ourselves.
